Manish Arora S/S 09

I have a new favorite designer and his name is Manish Arora.  I came across him while surfing YouTube for international fashion shows.  I love his circus themed  Spring/ Summer 2009 collection shown in Paris.

Check it out:

This one is translated from english to loud french but the images are beautiful:

It is officially SPRING!!! I am so excited for the change in wardrobe...and temperature! Oh and if you don't know jumpsuits are what's hot this spring.

If you can't afford designer suit like these I recommend scouring thrift stores. Or I'm sure H&M or ZARA are going to be offering knockoff versions. Happy jumpsuit hunting!

Until then, I have 3!

Emma Bell S/S '09

I was You-tubing (is that a word?) "London Fashion Week" trying to catch up on videos from current A/W '09 runway shows when this one popped up:

I had to post it because the hair and make-up are so creative.  And the collection is fun, everything reminds me of Anime.  I needed to see this at a time when everything is so drab and safe.  I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did!

Until then, Creativity lives!

Those are as big as your head!

Accoring to Style.com big earrings are back for Spring 2009! (Well in my case they haven't gone anywhere).  They are to be worn with short hair and long hair pulled back or up in a ponytail, braids or bun.  This includes, chandeliers, door-knockers, and big clip ons.  My favorite look is putting multiple clip-ons on one ear as seen below:

My recommendations for pulling of this look on a budget are:

1. Visit your local thrift store! Many have big clip ons for under $10

2. Get creative! Buy some inexpensive door knockers pull out your hot glue gun and get to wrapping to achieve the twisted door knocker Louis Vuitton look.

3. Take any cool old buttons and broken earrings you have laying around and pull out that hot glue gun again!

Have fun searching out and creating your new earrings!

Until then, I'm dusting off my hot glue gun!

LA Fashion Week: Suh-Tahn S/S 09

Source: Getty Images

LA Fashion Week began yesterday and the best in show for Sunday Oct. 12th was Suh-Tahn.  While some of the other designers that day delivered the cliche LA looks, rhinestones, cut off tees and studded jeans and overdone Oscar gowns.  Suh-Tahn delivered a collection that was able to transcend borders.

Until then, cross your fingers for LA!

Fashion Week Paris: Hermès S/S 09

Not feeling this Hermès...cowgirl chic? Really...I think they went a little too far on this one.  Try harder next season please.

But Naomi is giving it in this red chiffon dress...still...

Until then, I'm not impressed.

Bernhard Willhelm S/S 09

Images courtesy of: http://supertalk.superfuture.com

I am in love with the Bernhard Willhelm S/S 09 collection debuted at Paris fashion week yesterday.  I think its fresh and the prints and graphics are beautifully ethno-inspired.  The face-paint (which I am a huge fan of) ranges from comical to offensive to fashion forward.  Looking at this collection you get a sense that he was designing for people of the not so distant future, post-global economic meltdown.  DOOMSday.  Well in any case...I'm glad to see something besides 80s fashion on the runway.  Thanks Bernhard!

Until then, Imma paint my face!

Personally I think that jumpers, jumpsuits, rompers or as I like to call them Onesies, have been back for awhile.  But maybe that's just in my world.

Until next time!

P.S. Peak at my past post about Thom Browne to see the rompers they made for men.

Milan Fashion Week S/S 09: Gianfranco Ferre

Source: Nytimes.com

Gianfranco Ferre has made a huge comeback this Milan fashion week with new designers, Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi of 6267.  I am loving their sculpted ruffles!  It gives strength to the frilly notion of a ruffle.  I know a lot of people who are not into ruffles but these are giving us so much theatrics. How could you resist?

Until next time, ruffle some feathers!

Fashion Week Day 4: Telfar & Luca Luca

Hello friends! I had the pleasure of working again with my friend Telfar backstage on his S/S 09 show titled Breathe. Telfar designs androgynous clothing and every season he out does himself. The S/S 09 collection was inspired by the Olympics and took place at the St. Patrick's Gym on Mulberry St. The collection consisted of a lot of breathable mesh fabrics and customized Converse Jack Percell sneakers. The runway was made of turf! Just check this season's collection out for yourself:

Yes the tennis balls are the heels on this customized sneaker

P.S. Telfar and I were homecoming dates back in the days when I had a relaxer:

Next I went to work backstage at Luca Luca's S/S 09 Show in the Promenade tent. They took all of the dressers passes for the celebrities and such that were backstage. But I got a t-shirt:

Oh yeah and backstage was pandemonium! The photographers and camera men were so aggressive they literally almost knocked over the racks (and me) trying to photograph Serena Williams and Perrey Reeves (HBOs Entourage). The collection was beautiful lots of silk and organza fabrics, gowns with beautiful cut-out details, sheer blouses, silk jumpers, trousers and skirts with waistlines that had a stair-step effect. the color palette was soft and feminine, white, tan, grey with touches of coral and blue. I loved the collection and didn't see a piece that I wouldn't wear. Later today I will be working on Thom Browne. So ecstatic to be working on Thom Browne but it will be a challenge tying perfect half-windsor knots LOL.

Fashion Week Day 1: Venexiana

I worked backstage at my first Olympus Fashion Week show!

Here's my pass:

Here's what I wore:

It was so hectic! Venexiana's S/S 09 line was amazing! There were beautiful, beaded and sequins gowns with lots of chiffon. Chic suiting with wide leg pants and sexy jackets. Pencil skirts with loads of gathers down the sides. Elaborate beading and embroidery. I definitely got inspired being around all of those beautiful garments. There where 35 dressers including myself. My model came from another show and arrived right when the show began so it was crazy getting her ready in time. Its so funny how there's so much preparation and stress for a 20 min show but presentation is EVERYTHING. I'm working LUCA LUCA S/S 09 on Monday! I'm so excited :). This is a fashion lover's dream and I am living it!
