Army Green and...

All clothing and images found via  Net-a-Porter

After having a twitter conversation with @PurpleDistrict I decided to do a new collage and post on Fall 2010 trends. If you haven't noticed Army green and leopard print are blazing hot this season.  And all over the place its almost overwhelming!  Sometimes army green can seem drab as hell so...drumroll...

I did a collage to brighten up army green (and fall sheesh) by using another popular color -- coral!  I also decided to through purple into the mix because its my favorite color! I think that army green is almost a staple color like brown or black, it can go with almost any color.

As your wearing army green and leopard this season don't be afraid to mix other colors with it!  I like to see various yellows (from sunny to mustard) and grays with army green. And don't be afraid to mix brown and black pieces!  Learn the art of coordinating (not over matching) through experimenting and trying things different ways.

If you have any color, style or fashion questions don't hesitate to tweet at me at: http://www.twitter.com/chaythegr8 and I will blog your answer!

Until then,

Trend: Nerd Chic

Via WWD.com

Love this picture! Retweeted this and I thought I had to post on my blog! I plan on doing a more lengthy post on this trend later (which I predicted at the Monarchy S/S 2010 Show).  If you click the WWD link you can read their take on nerd chic and see more photos from that photo shoot shot by Amanda Pratt.

I need to do my own "Nerd Chic" inspired shoot B).

Until then, Nerd #1!

Vintage Style 11.8.09

I went to a local festival in umm...sorry I forgot the section of Tokyo. I did a lot of shopping because the vintage was so cheap and good! I got this hooded faux fur jacket for $28!

Me and a school girl

Check out more styling girls I ran into while vintage shopping:

She's remixing the sailor school girl look nicely

She works the bright colors, prints and patterns!
Even her headphones coordinate.

Innocent doll-like raggedy Ann look

Oh and Japan has the best vintage...its crazy. Their buyers are sending all the vintage flyness from all over the world here! If you (like myself) are an avid vintage collector you must make the trip here.

Until then, Its worth it!

Shimokitazawa 11.07.09

She's gotta be my favorite person I've photographed so far. Oh and I took this picture at 4pm in Shimokitazawa. She reminds me of an anime character I can't remember which one :/. That's a wig tucked in her top. Amazing creativity.

Until then, Inspired by the craziness!

Hiroshi's back LOL

I went to SECO Bar in Shibuya with my friend Hiroshi last night....craziness. Spotting a trend here of old school labels like MCM and vintage (reproduced?) Troop jackets. ♥ it!

Love the MCM hat!

I wonder how much a MCM backpack would cost. I've always really wanted one.

Until then, :)

Shibuya Girls: Day & Night!

Yes they dress like they going to the club day & night and I love it! Thigh high boots in black or gray, leather or suede is whats hot here right now. (P.S. its 70 degrees LOL). Sequins are very trendy day or night and are worn in the form of dresses, hoodies, skirts, tank tops and accessories. More trend pics later today I'm off to Shibuya and Harajuku armed with my new camera!

Until then, ♥ Her!

Shibuya Trend: Faux Fur Stoles

My camera broke!!!!! Thank god I'm in one of the technology capitals in the world! Here's some of the last "good" trendspotting pictures I took with my camera:

All of the shibuya and harajuku styled girls are rocking these faux fur wraps, or as grandma Eubie used to call them "fur stoles." They wear them in mainly cream and baby pink and sometimes leopard print. You know I have to come back with one or two!

Until then, Faux not Fox Fur Please!

Komban wa. - Good evening! I made it safe and sound! Today was a day spent exploring the neighborhood I'm staying in Shinagawa. And grocery shopping:

Supermarket was a playground because nothing was in English and I had to guess what was in a lot of packages. Hence me buying this:

I thought it was waffles and it was honey butter LOL. I'm spending more time in Shibuya tomorrow (fashion district) and I will have lots to report on the fashion tip.

Fashion vs. Style

I think this interview is a great commentary on the difference between fashion & style:

What do you think are the differences?
Do you follow trends?
Or do you have your own style?

I would love to read your comments on this one :)

Until then,  Do you have style?

If you can't afford designer suit like these I recommend scouring thrift stores. Or I'm sure H&M or ZARA are going to be offering knockoff versions. Happy jumpsuit hunting!

Until then, I have 3!

Fall Trend: Fur Neckwear

Center image: Christian Lacroix, outer images: Karl Lagerfeld
Found at: Style.com

We have already discussed my undoubtable love for fur. This trend however raised an eyebow when I saw it. I didn't think it a trend until I saw pictures of both Christain Lacroix and Karl Lagerfeld's Paris Fashion Week A/W '09 shows where they are using fur in a similar manner. I'm not sure how I feel about wearing a fur neckpiece. Any thoughts? I'd love to hear your comments on this one.

Until then, hmm...

It's all about the SHOULDERS dahling!

As a girl I was always self-conscious of my broad shoulders and small frame. Over time I have learned to embrace them and even flaunt them! So needless to say I am enjoying this "Shapely Shoulders" trend that has strolled down the catwalks in Milan this past week. Yes, its very 80s & reminiscent of Dynasty...So what?

Until then, Flaunt 'Em!

Pre-Fashion Week Trendspotting

Fashion Week officially begins tomorrow!! Yay! I'm so excited (if you can't tell).  I have lots of fun things to cover for you this week so keep checking in. 1st up: Outlaws of the Border!

Tuesday night I went to the Outlaws of the Border A/W 09 fashion show with O.M.O. Writes.  It was at a very cute low-key bar on East Broadway & Canal. There was a very interesting staircase runway situation that made it difficult for me to take pics:

And I was fashionably late...LOL.

The main trends I saw for A/W 09 were:

1. Chunky knits
2. Thigh highs
3. The "ever so tight" wool pant for men
4. Buttoned-up (high buttoned collars on shirts & coats)

We'll see what other designers have similar trends and themes. I'm working the Venexiana A/W 09 Show in the tents tomorrow night.  Make sure you are following me or subscribe to keep updated on more trend-spotting and other fashion week posts.

Until then, I ♥ FW

Are you FAUX real!?

I love fur.

But I feel bad about it.

Guilty even.

And now that it's getting colder and I see all these ladies on Madison avenue rocking their floor length minks and matching toppers.  I want one, well actually I want a rabbit or fox fur vest.  Well here's my thoughts on how I can get over my guilt.

1. Buy a faux fur coat or vest (Obvious)- If it's a good one people usually can't tell its faux & they are really warm options.

2. Buy a vintage fur- Less expensive & they've had previous owners so you don't feel like that animal was killed recently just for you.  Well at least that's my logic LOL.  PETA is hating me right now.

Until then, I'm still conflicted!

Chay$

P.S. That coat is a vintage beauty given to me by my grandma-in-law...can you tell if it's FAUX REAL?  First one to get the answer right wins a prize...50/50 chances come on!
